Steamdome is the commission-gone-working band assembled and composed by jazz-violinist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Ola Kvernberg. The beat-driven, 7-piece concept is the result of a myriad of impulses, ranging from classical music and movie scores to folk and world music.
The latest album from Kvernberg and his trusted companions – “Steamdome II: The Hypogean” – has been bestowed with rave reviews in the national press. Its hybrid of contemporary jazz and electronic, club-infused elements has solidified Steamdome as one of the Norwegian jazz scene’s most vital outfits.
With masterful bow strokes and deft programming, Kvernberg manages to bring together influences from such widely disparate artists as Gustav Mahler, Fela Kuti, John Williams, Kraftwerk, Billie Eilish, Luke Vibert, Kraftwerk, Caetano Veloso, yMusic, Squarepusher, and Lindstrøm. The end result? A hard-charging, ostinato-fuelled smorgasbord of hypnotic grooves, inspires solos and cascading crescendos.
Looking for that post-pandemic antidote to your home office and endless video calls? Steamdome has you covered.
